So. Apparently, I am indeed eligible for the dole right away - they won't start paying me for four weeks, but they will, apparently start paying me. I'd assumed I wouldn't be eligible until I'd burned through the cash, but apparently though that might reduce the payments, I am still eligible for something, and it'll probably supplement my income nicely. And beig turned down for jobs is actually going to be easy enough, with the whole "I'd like to start now ... and then go away for a month ...." thing.
Now, to ask them if I can still submit claim forms from Venice ...
[UPDATE] Bah. As I thought - if you have more than $2,500, they basically ask you to go away until you've burned through it. And tempting though it is to stick it under the bed and claim I spent it on icecream, really, I'd rather just get a job.
