Irony is Obselete.
Nov. 1st, 2004 10:48 amOne of the big buzzwords in e-learning, of course, is interoperability. Given the tendency towards heterogeneity even within single learning institutions, it's a big deal for content to be usable across a broad range of systems.
So you get places like ADL, who developed SCORM (ignore the acronyms, they Don't Matter(tm)) for the US DoD to be able to share on-line tests and assessment activities in a platform independent way. And the spec makes a big deal about using ECMAscript for portability, and how everything needs to be platform independent.
And ADL release both a reference implementation of the SCORM Run-Tiem environment, and a SCORM compliance test. Both of which run ... only on Windows.
I hate this industry.

Date: 2004-10-31 06:06 pm (UTC)I have problems with the word "interoperability". I see it and I keep thinking of "inoperable".
Which just doesn't quite work...
