I've wanted dreads, for a long time, but I'm a cheap, slack bastard. So I plan to have a few people over, ply them with beer and ... other inducements, and have them spend an afternoon back-combing, teasing and rubbing till I have dreads.
Two things.
1) It is, I gather, a boring process in and of itself. It will, of course, be an afternoon of dope, DVDs, and friends, which will hopefuly make up for it, but I consider this "people doing me a boring favour", rather than any sort of party or social event per se.
2) The more I contemplate it, the more ... odd it feels. The only person who brushes my hair is
bunnikins. Not that there's anything sexual, or intimate about it, it's just ... a little personal. So feel free to express interest, but my criteria for selection may strike you as ... odd. Fair warning.
Which is not to say only my close friends should apply - in fact, possibly exactly the opposite. Strange new people may be perfect :)
meleah has already offered to help, and in fact triggered me finally getting off my arse to arrange it. Anyone else who wishes to drop over some Sunday arvo in a few weeks, speak now!
UPDATE: We've inked the date in for the 12th, subject to me getting home and asking
bunnikins if we're busy that day. So, the 12th. And let's hope we get it all done in one day :)

Date: 2004-08-23 10:26 pm (UTC)And Sunday not too far away, eh? I'm going to be outta here from the 19th of Sept for a couple weeks. So either before then or after then, if I'm gonna make it! (and I'd like to - the boring favour part, I feel, is paid back through passing on the dread karma to the next person). Mine took forever and ever (a whole weekend, man we went through a lot of DVDs/pain/emotions/dope/beer in that time).I recommend having something to do that might distract you a little - I knitted a bit, which helped. But then I had chemical burns too, something you won't have. And I hope you're envisioning this working in shifts.. cos it could be pretty difficult getting too many people involved over one head! Oh and rubber bands. Get little rubber bands.. the type used for horses for dressage is perfect (slightly bigger than orthodontic bands but not huge.. about the diameter of my pinky..) I know some ppl say no, but I swear by 'em.

Date: 2004-08-23 10:54 pm (UTC)Swear by the jiffy bands for pigtails - I see no reason to abandon them now.
Half a dozen people makes 3 shifts of 2 people, and the other 4 can entertain each other on their downtime.
