Anyone have a couple of 802.11b PCMCIA cards they don't need? Figure I'll give that a shot before going to g.

No PCMCIA, but I do have a spare DWL-520+ PCI card if you want it. Works only with Windows though AFAIK.

If you haven't bought an AP, I can heartily recommend the Linksys WRT54G. At ~$140 it's damned good value, and there're people actively extending its functionality so even if Linksys lose interest there will probably be further fixes/improvements as need.

I have bought the AP, and I believe I will soon be able to heartily recommend the WRT54GS. More Of Everything, basically, and I got it for $177 shipped overnight from Brisbane.

The cards are for laptops, thanks anyway. Though I think I'll need a USB->wireless dongle for the biscuit PC.

I've had trauma with an old Orinoco card and a linksys router. However, this was over a year ago and may be fixed with firmware updates.

I've tested it with Linksys, Netgear, DLink and Dreytek routers and AP's and never had a problem.

Venice!?! Wow. You'd better get a wriggle on. It's getting more and more like Atlantis every day. :)

BTW, I am a wireless queen. I've set up four home networks. I *highly* recommend using all linksys products if you're using 802.11b. Different brands had *major* connection hassles and no decent phone support.

On the flip side, the recent iterations of configuration utility are fantastic, making the whole deal just as delightfully simple as a good dream.

I bought some Enterasys/Orinoco silver cards for $27.50 from austwireless - give them a go?

Though they only have to get from the mp3 laptop to the server room, so I guess the crappiest McCrap card in the world would do fine.

And I've just looked at prices for CF/SD wireless for the jornada. Fuck me gently with a chainsaw!
