Part the next in an ongoing series.

So. Hypothesis one was that Carbonara had fouled plugs.
Plugs were removed, and indeed fouled. With carbon, funnily enough.
That's a good kind of fouled, because it means you're not getting oil leaking in from fucked valve guides. Just a too rich fuel/air mix. The usual fix is to replace (or even just clean) the plugs.
Plugs were replaced with shiny new ones.
Problem was solved.
For about five minutes.

Hypothesis two: Air filter is clogged.
This will result in fouled plugs. Again and again and again.

The important part of this story being that I was a happy camper when I realised that I could do the plugs without removing the tank.
No such joy for the filter.

Mmmm, petrol-soaked "don't light that smoke near me" goodness.
It is to laugh.
Mmmmm, cost of replacement air filter.
It is to cry.

I seem to recall, however, that air filters are susceptible to the kind of stuff petrol cleans off. Two birds, one petrol-soaked air filter.

Booom.
Not recommended for rabbits. Natch.

Oh how I know this story all too well.

Remove plugs: Full of shit, replace.
Still no spark.
Replace leads: Still no spark.
Replace CDi box ($200!): Wee, we have spark.

Still runs like shit.

Remove both carbs, clean, refit, resync: Still runs like shit.

Remove air filter, clean, re-oil: Still runs like shit.

Grr.

Remove fuel cock, clean filter: Hey presto.

Working bike again.

Moral of the story: It's never the first thing you suspect.
