Anyone have any horror stories about TPG?
My faith in Internode has recently dwindled, and TPG are cheaper, though the pipe is less phat.
TPG do "unlimited" 512/128 for $99 a month, with (apparently) static IP(s) and reverse DNS.
Internode do "unlimited" 1500/256 for $150, but dynamic IP. We could .. ."arrange" statics, but it's a pain, and given Internodes recent performance, I'm a bit leery. Opinions, anyone?
In other news, our project manager has recently dyed her hair fire-engine red, and it's very spiky. How could we *not* dub her "Manage-me Elmo"?

Date: 2003-10-08 10:18 pm (UTC)It seems that pipe size really does matter...

Date: 2003-10-08 10:48 pm (UTC)The Tentacles do a lot of web hosting/mail lists, so there's a lot of outbound already, plus the inbound overhead.
I don't think we move anywhere near the same amount of traffic as the tentacles, nor do I plan to :)

But then I'm a size queen :)

Date: 2003-10-08 11:40 pm (UTC)Internode seem fine for home use, but then you get dynamic IPs.
The Tentacle IPs tunneled through internode became less attractive every day vurt was down....
I figure the BGP shouldn't be a drama once it's done once - it's not like we're multihoming at home, and tey are the ISPs IPs, so you'd imagine they could cope with routing them to us :)
But then all ISPs suck.
*sigh*
If it were just home use, I'd go internode, but The Flatmate wants static IPs with reverse DNS, and I'm happier with static IPs than pissing about with dyndns.

Date: 2003-10-08 11:46 pm (UTC)Personally, I don't think it's a very good idea, and anything that should have a static IP ought to be in colo. But I'm getting grumpy in my old age.
I suppose you could always try and add

Date: 2003-10-09 12:00 am (UTC)Actually, if you can recommend a good .au colo place. Actually, I suppose it doesn't have to be .au. Panix, then ? ;)

Date: 2003-10-09 12:14 am (UTC)(We have two completely separate mail systems, for example -- one run by the Cabal, one run by Vadik in his own jail as he wanted stuff we didn't provide.)
You may, however, be surprised by how infrequently you need root on a TINHO machine, We have two, BTW, one in NYC and one in Amsterdam.
If the flatmate just needs somewhere from which ti ssh, I imagine a compromise could be found.
Don't know about Australian colo providers. TINHO meets all my needs in that regard.

Date: 2003-10-09 12:18 am (UTC)And no bandwidth restrictions and I can do whatever I like and virtual mail and cool stuff?
Hrm. Almost tempting.
But, y'know...
I'm a control freak, basically :)
