And megan has been asking me for weeks what I want, and I have no idea.
But I've found it.
I must have one of these, or I will , um, be very disappointed.
At first glance, they're an MP3 player, and a moderately pricey one.
But on deeper examination, they become much, much more.
They are, in short, an infinitely flexible remote controlled LCD display. You can map the remote signals, at the computer, to do anything your computer can do. And then tell you about it on the LCD. Your computer can tell you about anything else - email, instant messages, whatever else your computer does for you. So you have complete control over the remote communication to the PC, and the LCD display.
Which would be $200 AU of hardware, plus soldering and swearing. Mmmmm.
So it's my birthday, and I'm buying one.
Toy. Mmmmmm.
We've got the price down thus far to ~$410 AU, shipped from the U.S. for 4 units. Orders over 5 may attract bulk discounts, they certainly make shipping cheaper. So let me know if you want one. OR if you want to hel ppay for mine :)
