48 hours in ....

Lest you think that's not much for 48 hours pretty much solid hacking, it also has the configuration engine from hell.
Current configuration options are:

The app is called moomin, you may have noticed. I don't know why either.
That's all pretty self-explanatory - try not to think about the bootstrapping issues involved in being able to configure the location of your configuration file :)
Expand cuts is the big one for a lot of us - you can set it to honour lj-cut, and hide the text as usual, or to ignore lj-cut and show everything. I'd like to be able to get to a point where you can set it to show the text behind an lj-cut automatically, but not the pictures, too.
Then I go and negate that with Trim Posts :) That will basically do the same as lj-cut, but it's purely length based - in the main window (though I have yet to work out what it'll look like), you can elect to show just the first X lines of any post.
(Ultimately, by the way, it'd be good to replicate each of these options on a per-poster basis, so you can choose always to see the whole post from one person, but trim someone elses.)
Show Pictures - For pictures other than icons, you can see the normal picture, a thumbnail, a link, or absoutely nothing.
It might be cute to get Expand Cut to always show thumbnails, actually, even if you have it set to show full pictures for posts.
Tag Timeout. This is the limit in days to expire "tags". If you "tag" a post (so that moomin informs you of comments added to it), the tag will expire if the article hasn't been posted to in this many days. Should really be configurable per article (and of course per poster), but this is the default.
Default XSL. moomin uses XSLT to convert the server responses to your preferred format. If you wanted to change it, you could edit it by hand, so this more interesting as a per-friend thing. I guess. Actually, I don't know why you;d ever want to change it. But there it is :)

Date: 2003-03-09 12:06 pm (UTC)I don't think you need to worry about doing it per article / poster, so long as you can set a "non expiring" tag as well as the usual ones. Of course, once you do that you need to be able to filter your messages in reverse order with only the tagged ones showing, occasionally so that you can do a manual purge.
The expand cuts/trim posts pair is freakin genuis.
I'm a bit slow....
