Half a stitz!
I can do the pullup, and into the "flare" with the elbows. Now I have to do a lot of dips to get the triceps up to speed for the second half. But still!
And Anne and James were coaching me. Admittedly, their coaching consisted largely of "Just push!", but James clued me in on the double-wrap with the straps, and Anne had useful things to say about the flare.
So. A stitz in a month, is my new goal.

Now it is my goal to do a stitz. That's a move almost as hard to explain as it is to do, but basically, you do a close-grip pullup (inside of the wrists towards your face) on the straps, and keep going. When your elbows get down to your chest, pull them sideways and down, flat by your sides. Flip your wrists so the inside of your wrists point down, and push up, so you come up on straight arms on the straps. That's a stitz.

Date: 2008-10-04 07:29 pm (UTC)Once you can do one, I suspect that being many to do many comes quickly. At that was the case with all of the variants on pull-ups for me.
The bad news is that once you can do a stitz, that opens up a whole new world that difficult moves that will take years to master.

Date: 2008-10-05 04:59 am (UTC)My performance came and went. I think it was alright and people walked up to me and said nice things afterwards. I'm not entirely certain that this means that I was good - because there's always someone in the audience who enjoys what you're doing even if you're awful - but it's a step forward. It takes a lot of performing experience to get good. I think I have a long road ahead of me.
