Ok.
Once again, I appeal to the windows clued among you.
Attempting to install W2K on the THROBBING BEAST OF POWER, I discovered that the W2K install CD doesn't recognise my RAID setup.
It's an Abit IT7 motherboard with onboard RAID, and a single Maxtor drive, that shows up fine as C drive in WinXP.

But W2K says "No hard drive". Fair enough. Any ideas on what drivers I need (I have the motherboard driver CD), and more to the point how to load them in the W2K install process?

FreeBSD, lest you think I'm being smug, doesn't recognise the keyboard. I would go back to my dodgy old keyboard, but I've discovered that the THROBBING BEAST has no ps2 ports. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch.

10 USB ports, though.
What am I going to do with 10 USB ports??

It's fast, though :)

You could give some of them to me. Without adding a hub, I'm full up now: keyboard, mouse, Palm Pilot, audio in/out device, UPS, memory-media reader, digicam.

Can only fit so many because both the display and the keyboard have mini-hubs (two ports each) on them.

Wow.

You spent ten million dollars on a Mac and it doesn't fulfil your needs?
Sucker!

If I can remove any of these, you're welcome to them - I don't actually use USB much. But I have a suspicion they're all onboard. Everything else is.

Heh. The USB thing has sort of grown over the last year or two -- when I bought the G4, the only USB devices I had were the keyboard+mouse. But I keep buying new toys...

Things to do with 10 USB Ports

Hope that they're USB 2.0 'cause 60 meg/second is much better that 0.1875.

Connect the maximum number of keyboards to each port through some USB hubs. At 127 devices per port that's 1270 keyboards. You'll need a rack.

"Borrow" 1270 monkeys. Even tho' they won't churn out Shakespeare, they might make a reasonable good short story in a postmodernist style.

Put in a submission to the Australian Arts Council.

Oh.. and hello. Yes, even I've succumbed to LJ now... How's the anti-purple turtle?

The monkeys is a good idea. I started to say "But, uh, monitors for them all?", then I realised you can have USB monitors, and they don't need to see what they're typing anyway.

anti-purple-turtle is good - daily we give up an inch more to the wisteria, soon we shall be consumed. Who the fuck are you? ;)
