Savings shmavings, I'm buying me a new puter!
Synchronicity. The flatmate of one of the guys at work (with vague connections to our little social group) is selling this beast:
Lian-Li - Mid-tower all aluminium ATX case w/- slide out Motherboard
tray and 3 cooling fans with speed selector
Topower - 520w ATX "Gold" power supply
Abit - "IT7 Max" 400/533 MHz Socket 478 (P4) ATA 100/133 Motherboard
w/- LAN, Raid, 10x USB, 2x 1334 and 5.1 6-channel audio
Intel - 2.53 GHz (533 mhz) Pentium 4 processor
Corsair - PC3200CL2 512mb 184 pin DDR RAM w/- aluminum heatspreader
Asus - 48x16x48 Tray load CD-RW drive
Pioneer - "DVD116" 16x Tray load DVD drive
Maxtor - DiamondMax Plus8 40GB ATA 133 HDD (2mb cache)
Maxtor - DiamondMax Plus9 80GB ATA 133 HDD (2mb cache)
Lian-Li - Aluminium face plate for Pioneer DVD116 drive
Lian-Li - Aluminium mouse pad
ThermalTake - "Volcano 7+" 70mm 5000rpm CPU copper heatsink
Logitech - "Elite Duo" cordless USB-PS/2 keyboard and optical mouse
Asus - V7100(T) Geforce 2 MMX 32mB with ThermalTake Orange Orb
There's a whole lot of stuff in there I wouldn't bother with if I were buying new (Lian Li, the case for wankers!), but it's good quality stuff, just way too pricey. At the price he's asking, all the frills become, effectively, free - even with my usual "hardware is worth half what you bought it for" rule. So I'm putting a deposit on it tomorrow, and paying the balance next week. Which means the new monitor will have to go on my credit card, unless my insurance company recover and reimburse my $700 excess next week. Which is unlikely. So this time next week, I should have a shiny new toy.
In related news, this means I now have two machines to get rid of - both lower end (P166/233). Anyone looking for a mail/web server, or web surifng box?
They'll happily run linux with X, but they aren't exactly gaming machines ;)
But I have to get rid of them, or I'm in trouble :)
