More rigging, huzzah. Out to Werribee again - boo, especially when my alarm didn't go off and the bike failed to start. Somehow, I was still on time! More ropes today, tomorrow, steel erections. Make of it what you will :)

And dropped into NICA today - they're advertising for a rigger, and although the job is out of my reach, it's an excuse to chat to them about casual work, and get my CV in the door, so I must update my CV. And a couple of guys in the riggers class know a couple of guys in theatre rigging, so they will pas my details on. It all comes together, huzzah.

So, I figured I'd taunt you all with more Venice photos.

These are all about 370 - 380 Kb
The King and Queen of Cats.
These guys had it sussed. The trick to truly stunning costumes is to make sure that no part of your skin is visible. That's the first and foremost trick. Everyting else is frippery - you can stand around in a black robe and white mask and be photographed so long as you're not showing skin. Skin (or worse, running shoes!) reminds the viewer that there's a human under there, and that spoils the look. But these guys were seriously beautiful. It's one of my favourite photos, I think.

Wonderland
Except maybe this one. These guys rocked even more. Note the "no skin" rule used to good effect again. These guys were actually drilling in San Marco square, they'd do a square, and then walk through each other like soldiers drilling, so the square was moving and changing while the Joker did his thing. And the masks are double sided - you have to look at their feet to work out which is front and which is back, which was a very cool touch. They, and particularly the joker, held this pose for me for a while as I lined it up, and while other Stupid Tourists (tm) got in and out of my way. So again, great costumes, and I like the shot.

To prove we were really there
This is [livejournal.com profile] bunnikins, at the top of ... some tower. Quite a nice tower, and it was some sort of historical building, but then so are 80% of the buildings in Venice, of course. In the background, you can see the Campanile and the Basilica de San Marco (the tall tower and flowery cupola respectively). The astute viwere will also be wondering about the picture of the Leaning Tower of Pisa coverig what we were assured was in fact the Orologia (famous clock). This was kinda cool - a lot of the facades, of course, need regular cleaning and restoration, so they cover the scaffold with line drawings of the facade underneath while they work on it. Evidently they were restoring the Orologia, and the Pisa Tourist Board had them put a picture of the leaning tower of Pisa instead. Kinda odd.

The Basilica de San Marco
Kinda goes without saying, really. The final resting place of the bones of St Mark the Evangelist. And, miraculously, it doesn't have the bloody lion in it. Venice was, of course, very much La Serenissima Republica de San Marco, and St Mark's winged lion is *everywhere*, from the flags to the statues to the buildings. But even without the lion, the basilica is gorgeous, especially in that sun.

The Giant's Staircase
Between the Basilica and the Ducal Palace, there's a corridor that ends here, the staircase to the Doge's Apartments, and the formal reception rooms of the palace. That's Atlas and Mars on either side, and of course That Bloody Lion in the middle. Somewhere in the palace, I fell in love with [livejournal.com profile] bunnikins all over again when she looked casually at one of the big pretty paintings, and said "Oh look, a Tintoretto". And when I looked blankly at her, said "Well, or workshop of. You can tell, from the white knees. Classic Tintoretto touch." Hidden depths ....

Oh, BTW, [livejournal.com profile] bevsob, when she returns from jaunting to Cairns, is potentially looking for someone to motorbike daytrip down the Great Ocean Road with... She's planning on hiring one, and would be happy to go on her own, but said that company would be good...
