[livejournal.com profile] bunnikins and I have this couply joke. Whenever I mention hardware, and especially the acquisition thereof, she looks at me and says "You have enough computers.". And I ham it up, and look all confused at the mention of "enough" in the context of "computers.". Um. At least, I've always assumed it wa a joke....

I found a computer tonight.
Just lying around with a few others, in the computer room.
I think I remember it - I think it's the machine formerly known as lioness, before I decided 166 MHZ was overkill for the gateway. But I'd *forgotten* it.

In the back of my mind I always know (or thought I knew) what I own, whether working (main desktop, bedroom desktop, main server, secondary server, gateway, the laptop), potentially working (HP9000, the Indys, a power Mac, a Mac Classic, the Amiga 1200, the spare pentium), or b0rken ( 3 Sun SLC/ELCs, the IPX, the Amiga 500, the other indy ... you get the picture).

But I've missed one. All this time. The more I look at it, the more sure I am that it's the old lioness. And I dimly recall replacing lioness, so I must just have not mentally recycled the box into "potentially working."

I suspect this means I'll be politely asked to get rid of one.
MYself, I reckon it's proof that the more you have, the more they tend to blend into the background. If I had 100, [livejournal.com profile] bunnikins wouldn't actually notice any of them as individual computers. This, I think, is a strategy worth pursuing...

I guess I could collect my collection from dad's garage... there's a good 40 or so in there.
Plus there's the 13 in my bedroom currently.

I guess we'll need that 3 tonne tandem trailer again.

Computers and TANKS!!!

I suspect that you might be able to negotiate the keeping of this newly re-discovered computer if you allow [livejournal.com profile] bunnikins to acquire some batteries for her robot warrior....

*smirk*

I got batteries! (Jai wanted me quiet while he messed around with something in the computer room) Putting it together was much fun, but now that it's running I've discovered a terrible design flaw - it doesn't blow things up!?! And the remote has only two buttons, "forwards" and "around in circles". Making it somewhat lacking in grace. But it came with little mines and pitraps to put together!

Does that mean?

If I asked nicely, you could come over and temporarily network my old box in with my new computer so I could download anything I wanted to save from my 5 1/4" floppies?

While [livejournal.com profile] bunnikins could wander through the Op Shop with the crucified rabbits.

If it was a weekend, we could then do lunch at The Gravy Train . Their coffee is excellent, and the beef so good even I have freely chosen beef on more than one occasion.

I fail to see a connectio5
Your old computer has a 5.25" floppy drive and no 3.5?
You can probably get 2 5.25" floppies onto a 3.5, and then stick those into the new computer.

I'm still not sure how me owning too much crappy old hardware makes it *more* likely that I'll want to go play with other peoples, though.
