Sent in invoice for last week - enough to live on for a fortnight, thank you very much - and just finished 11.5 billable hours (under the New World Order there will be time and a half after 8 hours, oh yes), and about to go back for another 4 (love those minimum calltimes !), so I treated myself to $50 worth of stuff from Futurlec. Mmmm. Curse whoever introduced me to futurlec. Sliding potentiometers for LX boards, RGB LEDs (I dunno, they were there) and value packs of ICs! 555s, 486 opamps, all in a great big grab-bag! Who could resist! Now I play the waiting game. Bah, the waiting game sucks ....
The swatches, in case you care, turned out almost perfectly, and according to expectations. None of them quite hardened enough, but that's not a surprise, given the weather and catalyst indifference. Resin seems to gloss the surface of leather (a bit tacky still, but given the fact that it's probably laminate resin (final-coat resin contains wax to harden it, laminate is designed to layer, so it remains tacky between coats), that's ok - I'm about to test giving it a coat of lacquer spray paint), soak right into cardboard (it cracked when I bent it, which indicates enough rigidity to act as a form), soak into suede *and remain soft* (*shrug*), and just sits on PVC tube and pingpong balls, adhering acceptably for the projects I have in mind.
Mmm. And three days off (maybe more!) to play. These are the things I do to keep me away from WoW ....

Date: 2005-10-18 04:18 am (UTC)The sliding pots were the clincher for me. It's almost cheaper to have them individually shipped from Futurlec than it is to go to RS Australia to buy them. The pots alone from RS would have cost me almost as much as my entire order. And jaycar/radioparts don't stock sliding pots.
Mmmm, sliding pots. Mmm, DMX-512.
