2 pm tomorrow.
Cunningly arranged, you'll note, so that if you have another party to go to later, you can still drop by for pork & beer. There may well be recovery lunch on Saturday, too - we piked on it last year, but I think there'll be much pork left over this year again.

Menu at the moment:

Pork Roast. Duh.
Apple-stuffed Loin (fnarr)
Cider-glazed West Country Ham (home made, or at least home-hammed)
BBQ ribs
Bacon & potato salad.

And, a New Years Resolution, apropos of yesterday's post:

"Are you listening?"
"Yes," said Tiffany.
"Good. Now ... if you trust in yourself ..."
"Yes?"
"... and believe in your dreams ..."
"Yes?"
"... and follow your star.. ." Miss Tick went on.
"Yes?"
"... you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy. Good-bye."

(Terry Pratchett, _Wee Free Men_)

I find it interesting, by the way, (apropos of yesterday's post among others) that by far the most popular post I've ever made was my review of Dawn of War, whereas the more personal reflective posts barely get a reply. Why is that?

the amount of comments you get on a post is directly related to how frivolous and retarded it is. you could post something deserving of the pulitzer prize and no one would care, but if you just said "fart" at least five people would comment.

*nod* Wasn't sure where that was at, and obviously it's something only himself can say.

Actually, I might not end up making it now. Going to work for disaster relief donations and all that. Ah, well - one year!

You can come after, but yes, I heard about the disaster stuff - kudos to you.

Probably another party in Jan before we go, or March after we get back, so keep those months free :)

You're coming in? Excellent! Are you working tonight at all? I'm staying a couple of hours after I finish my regular shift at Flybuys, but I won't be there tomorrow cos I'm going straight from Flybuys to the japanese bathhouse...

I've noticed roughly the same thing. Personal observations, the small series of posts where I'm transcribing a 5min chat with a stranger (which people kept telling me in person that they were loving reading) etc. don't get any comment at all. I figure that it's cause folks feel as though they have less of a right to comment on personal stuff...

I think that's it, a lot of people don't feel comfortable telling you their opinion on your personal life unless you specifically ask for it.

See, if I didn't want feedback (_appropriate_ feedback), I wouldn't be posting it to LJ. Or at least, in posting it, I invite feedback, implicitly, by not disabling comments. Or at least I think so.

*shrug*

That sounds like a fabulous menu, most clever you - about this party? The one at our house 'n all?I may be, well, it's possible...a bit late.

I'm going straight from work to the bathhouse, but I'll come home straight after that, I promise:)

Apple-stuffed loin?! *squeals with the high-pitched dementia of Alarming Kitty Device* Be still my horn-addled pulsating colon.

The more fatuous and fluffy a post is, the more people are inclined to reply with fatuous, fluffy drivel, unbeknownst to the fact that said post was probably written as an exercise in the art of time-suckage. When it comes to more involved, introspective posts that actually mean something, they'll quickly scan for key words like "boobs", "my new hot fondue jacuzzi" and "hot gaybos at the gym" and blink several times.

Most conversation occurs when people have something to say that relates to themselves as well... Random stuff that people have an opinion about is guaranteed to get commentary. Personal-fu, unless you explicitly solicit comment, just isn't going to get comment, unless it's relatively trivial stuff, like whether you fold or scrunch the toilet paper...
