So is anyone driving from Melbourne to Brisbane for Linuxconf.au next year?

It seems unlikely, but I wouldn't mind a few days in Brisbane, and I might as well go up then. I can share petrol and driving, I just can't afford to fly.

Are you aware that if you find the right disount airfare (which is fairly easy these days, its actually cheaper than the petrol would cost.

In Europe, yes, and in theory yes. I'm not convinced about Australia day time with planes full of cashed-up geeks. But it's worth a look.

$250 return. Probably not doable, I was hoping my share of the petrol might be closer to $100.
