So I downloaded the base WoW installer, and patched to current, thinking that I could play a little in the Old World of Azeroth while the expansion downloaded. but apparently not - if my account is upgraded and my install is not, I can't play at all. Now, if I hadn't bought the update, I'd be able to play in the Old World fine. So I've paid $whatever it was to cripple the basic functionality! GG Blizzard!

Status.

Pick up PC: done.

Install Ubuntu: Done. Let me just say, modern hardware + Ubuntu == love. Everything detected, everything installed, everything worked in no time flat.

Set up new linksys wireless router as bridge to the old one: Don't. Get. Me. Started. Apparently, they don't bridge out of the box, and hacked firmware for the new ones is hard to find. Fortunately, the old one I brought from Australia is eminently hackable, so I swapped them. Done, finally.

Download WoW installer: As we speak.

So we're on track. I might crack and sms my boss and see if he has the install disks - I know he plays :)

Updated timeline: Playing on Sunday, or possibly Saturday US time.
