Aug. 31st, 2006 09:44 pmDid I mention overcommitted? I told the old, much-work-in-the-past boss that I couldn't work Saturday night. And he did the immediate guilt thing of "Oh, well, just means Nathan can't have the night off." (Nathan is my friend, who has the fulltime job there that I turned down, though there's interesting politics around that, with him actualy having been offered the job before me. But anyway :). Not MY Problem, but it irks me that Nathan won't get to see The Herd and that the boss *makes* it my fault, despite having 5 days notice.
And, of course, he's been silent about Friday night. I said "I'm not booked Friday night yet, though." and he said "I'll bear it in mind." Fair enough, he likes the same crew for ins and outs, and it makes sense to offer 2 nights of work to whoever does the Saturday night. But I've been working there long enough to recognise "We'll just make Jai sweat a little." when I see it.
But that's ok. I have a new rule - never turn down work unless I've billed more than 30 hours each week for the previous 3 weeks (and not an average, either, 30 hours in each of the given weeks). This week, I started with an empty week. Was called on Monday and asked to work Monday night. Was called Tuesday, asked to work Wednesday. Was called Wednesday, asked to work Thursday. Twice. Was called Thursday, asked to work Friday. Twice. Tomorrow's Friday, so I'm working tomorrow morning, and then again on Sunday. Please let no-one ring tomorrow!
This, by the way, is the result of 3 phone calls I made last week when I decided to get off my arse and actually *look* for rigging work. I guess I should stop making phone calls now ....
